Offer basics

How to name an offer so people remember it

A good name tells people what they get before they read anything else.

The name of your offer is often the first thing a customer reads on your website or in an ad. Despite this, many small business owners treat the name as an afterthought. They use internal jargon or clever phrases that confuse people.

If your name is confusing, people will usually click away.

A great offer name does not need to be artistic or poetic. It needs to be clear, descriptive, and focused on the person buying it. The goal is for your target customer to read the name and instantly see the package was built for them.

Three rules for naming your packages

First, include the target customer or the specific situation in the name. This calls out the exact reader you want to attract.

Second, include the core outcome or timeline. This tells the reader what problem is about to be solved.

Third, keep it simple. Avoid made-up words or metaphors that need explaining. If a customer has to think hard to understand what you mean, the name is not working.

An example of a clear name

Look at a residential painting business to see how naming changes the perceived value.

If the painter calls their service "Interior Painting Package," it feels like a commodity. It sounds like what every other painter offers.

Instead, the painter can split the service into targeted offers with descriptive names. For example, the "One-Room Nursery Refresh":

  • What is included: Complete wall patching, two coats of low-odor, eco-friendly paint, and full cleanup in a single bedroom.
  • The price: $450 flat fee.
  • Who it is for: Expecting parents who want a bedroom painted safely and quickly before the new baby arrives.

The name works because it immediately tells expecting parents that this package fits their situation. It feels much more valuable than a generic interior painting estimate.

Clarity over cleverness

You do not need to spend weeks brainstorming creative puns for your packages. Creative names often hide the value of what you are selling.

When you name your packages by who they help and what they achieve, your marketing usually becomes much more effective. Customers can easily see what they are buying and why it matters to them.
